FOR EDEN’S SAKE, Published, Endorsed, and Positively Received!

My newest release, For Eden Sake was recently released on September 5th—the feast day of St. Theresa of Calcutta. It has received such great reviews. You can find links to them on the title’s page, along with the book trailer and a link to the first chapter. And it also received an endorsement from Evangelist Alveda C. King! I’m not kidding. I printed her sweet words on the front cover for all to see. I feel so blessed.

“It is a poverty to decide that a child must die
so that you may live as you wish.”
(Saint Teresa of Calcutta)

I’m so excited about this novel. It’s been on my back-burner for many years. But it began nagging at me. A push from the Lord? Quite possibly. Because the story moved along pretty quickly toward completion.

For Eden’s Sake is a pro-life story with a primarily male POV, Isaac, and it’s directed at older teens. My hope is that readers of this demographic will finish the story with not just a newfound understanding of the value of life—from the moment of conception to that of natural death—but also that teens realize the significance of a chaste life.  That they come to recognize that intimacy is a gift from God reserved for married people, out of which the miracle of life comes.

While a story close to my heart, For Eden’s Sake has an important mission. It has a bigger responsibility than my other novels, going beyond the intention of saving souls. It’s task is to save souls and  lives.

Pray with me that it succeeds in this endeavor!

My Review of Corinna Turner’s “The Siege of Reginald Hill”

The Siege of Reginald Hill

by Corinna Turner

An odd surge filled my heart as I looked at him, sitting there in that chair: so old; so evil; so broken; so… alone. A warmth. A caring. A… love. I loved him. Just another poor sinner who need my care…

SAFETY IS NOT THE ABSENCE OF DANGER, BUT THE PRESENCE OF GOD.

Fr Kyle Verrall is living a quiet life as a parish priest in Africa when he’s snatched from his church one night by armed assailants. He’s in big trouble—his sister’s worst enemy is hell-bent on taking revenge on the famous Margaret Verrall by killing her brother, just as slowly and horribly as he can.

What could possibly save him? The humble young priest is defenseless—or so Reginald Hill believes.

But Kyle has a powerful weapon Hill knows nothing about. And he’s not afraid to use it.

Is Reginald Hill really the hunter?
Or is he the hunted?

MY REVIEW

In this new I Am Margaret installment, Margaret’s brother, Kyle, is a priest in Africa. But after being kidnapped by the notorious—and heartless—Reginald Hill, he’s pushed to his limit. Will he betray God in the midst of his suffering?
It’s not often that a story remains in my mind. There are a few that I’ll never forget even though it’s been years since I read them. Henry James’ “The Beast in the Jungle” and C. S. Lewis’ “The Great Divorce,” and now Corinna Turner’s The Siege of Reginald Hill. An extremely powerful example of what it really means to love our enemies, this novel provokes a whirlwind of emotions. Turner is an amazing storyteller who really delves into the souls of her characters and then relays their every emotion so that we too can connect with them and empathize with their plight.
Sharing God’s love and amazing forgiveness, Turner reminds all Catholics about the depths we must all go to sacrifice in order to really love. I highly recommend this story to young adults!

About the Author

CORINNA TURNER has been writing since she was fourteen and likes strong protagonists with plenty of integrity. She has an MA in English from Oxford University, but has foolishly gone on to work with both children and animals! Juggling work with the disabled and being a midwife to sheep, she spends as much time as she can in a little hut at the bottom of the garden, writing.

She is a Catholic Christian with roots in the Methodist and Anglican churches. A keen cinema-goer, she lives in the UK with her classic campervan ‘Toby’ (short for Tobias!), her larger and more expensive substitute for her lovely Giant African Land Snail, Peter, who sadly passed away in October 2016.

Why We Need Catholic Teen Fiction

Following is a guest post by award-winning author, Theresa Linden:

Catholic teen fiction is different from secular fiction because its themes, characters, conflict and/or story ideas come from and/or point to some aspect of truth given by Christ to the Church. While characters face temptations and challenges, like we all do, the message of where to find happiness is clear. Catholic teen fiction shows the beauty of morality and virtue in a fallen world. Finally, it not only entertains but lifts a reader’s thoughts to something greater than this world can ever offer.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church begins, “God, infinitely perfect and blessed in himself, in a plan of sheer goodness freely created man to make him share in his own blessed life. For this reason, at every time and in every place, God draws close to man. He calls man to seek him, to know him, to love him with all his strength. He calls together all men, scattered and divided by sin, into the unity of his family, the Church” (CCC p.1).

That is so amazing! God is always drawing close to us and calling us to seek him, know him, and love him. Everyone. Me, you, every member of your family, all your friends, fellow students, and coworkers . . . everyone! Even the people who don’t believe in him or who have turned away from him.

God is always calling, but are we listening?

The voice of the culture is loud. Life is distracting. And crosses and challenges often blind us to the truth. We have responsibilities, goals, and dreams. And sometimes we develop habits or behaviors that speak louder than the still, small voice of God.

That is why we need Catholic teen fiction!

Catholic fiction can help refresh our minds and renew our vision. It can help us refocus on faith amidst the distractions of life and point us to God’s plan for our happiness. It can spark our imagination and open our hearts to life-changing spiritual truths. It can delve into things we can all relate to: human weakness and misery, struggle for redemption, and the awesomeness of unmerited grace. Fictional characters and storylines can help us grasp powerful truths.

The theme of Roland West, Loner, the first in the West Brothers series, is that you are never alone. You belong to the Mystical Body of Christ. All Christians are your brothers and sisters. And so are the saints in heaven. This story sheds light on the meaning and power of the Communion of Saints.

The second book in this series, Life-Changing Love, addresses relationship issues that teens face. With Saint John Paul II’s “Theology of the Body” weaved into the story, it challenges the culture’s views and shows the beauty of the Church’s teachings on love. We were, after all, made for love!

Battle for His Soul, the third book in the West Brother series, unfolds in the spiritual realm. Readers get to see the spiritual battle going on around Jarret West and the power of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament.

Standing Strong, the fourth book in this series, comes out October 4th. This story picks up where Battle for His Soul left off.

Standing Strong is a beautiful testament to how God works—in the whispers, in the quiet moments, in the gentle guidance of our hearts. It’s a reminder that Jesus is with us in ways we may never understand, and that, if we allow it, the Holy Spirit will give us the strength to stand strong for God!” ~Lisa Mayer, author of The Aletheian Journeys Series

5 Ways to Enjoy Being Single When All of Your Friends Have Boyfriends

dancing-teens-590x295

Following is a post I recently wrote on Project Inspired:

Hey girls! Are all of your friends hung up on having a boyfriend? Are you? Or maybe your besties already have boyfriends and you’re still living the single life. Well, I’m here to tell you to stop pining and start taking advantage of being single!

I know it’s easier said than done, but when you think about how many years of your life you’ll likely be in a relationship, it sure makes sense to take this moment of being single and have fun with it, don’t you think?

Here are some ways that you can enjoy being single when all of your friends have boyfriends:

  1. Be confident and strengthened by your single status. I’ve mentioned this before, but I want to remind you that you are not defined by whether or not you have a boyfriend. So don’t feel bad if you don’t have one! It doesn’t make you less of a person. It doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you. It means you have the opportunity to learn to be confident and find strength in yourself and the the love of God Almighty. There is so much joy in that!
  2. Spend time with your single friends and find new ones. Being single gives you the chance to enjoy hanging out with your friends without compromising your time with a boyfriend, his friends and his family. Now’s the time to put yourself first when it comes to having fun. So spend time with your single friends and make more. Focus on friendships with like-minded people who share your interests and faith! Youth groups and church events are great places to meet friends.
  3. Get more involved in your activities. This is the one of the best times in your life to do the things that you want to do! It’s your time to mold yourself into the person you want to be without being distracted by someone else. So get to it!
  4. Take the time to strengthen your relationship with Christ. As a Christian, your number one should be Christ, whether you are single or in a relationship. So strengthen your relationship with Him before you get into a relationship so that pleasing Him first becomes second nature!
  5. Get to know who you are. This is a great time to learn who you are, what you want in life and what you enjoy doing. Once you learn about who you are, you’ll better recognize the kind of person best suited to you!

Ladies, being single and surrounded by couples doesn’t have to be a bad thing. You just have to use the time wisely and have fun! Are you single and enjoying it? Share your story, we love to hear from you!
